rumblings and musings of politics and men

I guess nobody ever said that elected office was a feel-good warm and fuzzy job. Nobody ever entered politics or public service because they needed approval and warm applause. Or if they did they were nuts. I don't think that after I turned 14 I was ever that naive but I thought that elected office would be energizing at least, challenging at worst or best and rewarding at the end of the day. What a fool I was.
The pitchfork and torch brigade have been storming the ramparts on the linked ins and chat sites with a reaction to a subject that has been plagueing the membership and has the attention of the Board. We are all over it in a sober and thoughtful way but if you were to take the chat sites at their highest level of volume you would think that we are ivory tower monarchy living on their membership dues like coked up gangsters in post war Cuba, and we couldn't hear the complaints over the clinking of ice cubes in our mohitos.
It is hard not to take things personally but I do as my sister suggested...I wear an elastic band and snap it on my wrist when I am tempted to say something without the benefit of hindsight. I am raising welts on my arm.

Thoughts on the the big B day. Hard to believe that the Bman will be 70 this year. Yeah I know he looks 50. At least he does to me, he must look like Methusela to our little nieces. His actual day is in November but since its too cold on the deck then and people don't like to drive in the winter, I am organizing his Birthday Celebration this summer.
We have been watching Top Chef Canada and cheering on our favourite chef Nicole Gomes. She hung in there until this past Monday when she was eliminated. I was secretly glad she was because I wanted to hire her for the party. However sad I told her we were of her loss. I am sure in the end no one will remember who really wins because she is a home town heroine in Calgary. She was quickly snatched up for radio interviews and people talked about her. She will be cooking for the party. Yahoo.I am so glad. I will be able to enjoy the party more if the food responsibility isn't mine.

The flowers are blooming on the deck and the flower beds and they haven't been smushed by hail ...yet. I have a military like drill planned for when the dark clouds gather and everyone knows their station and what to do. Everyone being me. Bryan says "what station, what flowers?" and by the time I have described what to do the damage will be done.
Travis is building a trellis wall on the north side of the patio which will shelter us from the wind and provide some privacy. I am hoping that all the projects around here will be done by the Bday.

Lunch at Seasons

Ahh this brings back memories. Ashley was 3 and she ordered lobster.  Many years later Ginger sniffefd the crotches of the bronze people.

Love QE park.

No much Vancouver's lousy weather
